Winter? What Winter?

We have always heard about the ‘constants’ in our lives, those things that represent the predictable, recurring elements in our lives that provide us with structure and stability.
In personal life, constants are the routine activities and practices that maintain our well-being. These aren't just mundane tasks, but deep personal elements that give us energy and hope.
Two of the most often referenced ‘constants’ are death and taxes. Then, interestingly, we often hear that "change is the only constant." That makes three constants.
It is tax season; thus, that constant will be on our minds until our tax returns are filed.
The weather is always changing … and is less and less predictable each year. My opening line, “Winter? What Winter?” references this most unseasonal weather we are experiencing this year. To have had only two bouts of snow that have required shoveling by the first week in February… that is a ‘change’ in the normal weather patterns we would expect in northern Indiana in January & February.
When I think about the role of constants in our lives, it seems they actually help us navigate change effectively. They provide a framework for managing life's unpredictable "variables" - those unexpected events that disrupt our routine.
Rather than stress about all the changes, why not focus on that the one thing that DOES NOT CHANGE … God’s love for us. God can be that recurring element in our life that provides us structure and stability. It is up to each of us to decide if we will let God be a constant for us. When we do, our life is so much more manageable.
Blessings to all,
Jim Hubbard
