Betwixt & Between

There just seems to me to be a whole lot of current situations/circumstances that have me feeling betwixt and between two different states of being, wondering which is the real thing and what is next?

• Is it still Spring or is Summer here? The fluctuating temperatures from day to day make me unsure.

• Is the economy getting worse or better? The stock market fluctuations keep me guessing.

• Are there tariffs in effect or not in effect? Day-to-day announcements make that confusing.

• Do I have another doctor’s appointment today… I had one last week didn’t I… or was that a different doctor? The older I get the more this kind of dilemma occurs.

There are perhaps many more uncertainties that surround you in your life, I know I have several others that I deal with every day and wonder about frequently.

But then I realize that these are earthly concerns over which I have little control. If I look to scripture and find …2 Corinthians 4:18: "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."…. I am reminded of the temporary nature of earthly things. To me this verse presents a contrast between the fleeting nature of earthly experiences and the enduring reality of God's kingdom. If I focus on what is unseen and eternal, it is easier for me to find true satisfaction and purpose in what I do in my life, rather than being consumed by the fleeting nature of earthly things…which are temporary.

Therefore, the disruption and anxiety that many of the situations/ circumstances that make me feel like I am ‘betwixt and between’ two different states of being are more easily accepted and managed.

As Easter is now seen in our rearview mirror, we must not forget that our earthly life IS temporary, but through Christ we can have life that is eternal. 

I am trying to enjoy the state of being ‘betwixt & between’, embracing it, trying not to let it consume me… and that effort itself has me betwixt and between success and failure. But, I am still trying…..
