Trish Lawson's Reflections

Happy New Year, First Presbyterian family! I hope your 2025 has started out in a most positive way! For us Lawsons, we started it out with Influenza A (except for Molly who apparently has immunity of steel). During this time of illness, we sadly lost my Grandma Janet, my last surviving grandparent. While everyone else has vastly improved, I am still fighting the good fight!

I always look at the new year as opening a fresh notebook, empty pages waiting to be filled with new ideas, new or updated goals, the highs and lows of the days and always an opportunity for personal growth. Last year around this same time I gave my opinion on “New Years Resolutions” and why they are not my preference. I won’t rehash that opinion, but what I did try to do intentionally each day (yes, I may have missed some days) was end my night with 1, 2, 3:

1 Challenge that I experienced that day,

2 Moments of positivity that made said challenge feel not so heavy or intrusive,

3 Ideas that I can try to make my next day a more positive one.

It was a time set aside for just myself, and what I came to realize as I did this more often was that my next day was met with a deeper sense of purpose and less grumbling about the day before. I found peace and grace that I gifted myself by doing that.

So, who is ready to “1,2,3” challenge themselves in 2025? It is so important to take care of every part of oneself and all are worth the check-in!

Wishing you all wonderful things in 2025 with much love,

Trish
